Cats of Hagerstown seeks to fund feline rescue.
Confession time. I really, really wanted that interview with Ann Mahoney — Olivia on AMC’s The Walking Dead. It came up for grabs last month when the new assignments came down from the magazine, and I nearly broke my keyboard and my pinkie finger trying to get my request in.
I’ve been an enthusiastic fan of TWD for six seasons now, even through season three and all those long, drawn-out scenes with the governor — David Morrissey’s total-villain-without-one-redeeming-quality.
But none of that really matters now.
I didn’t get the assignment. Pepper Van Tassell did, and did a bang-up job — you can read The Hollywood Treatment here.
What I did score was the interview with two local teens who love cats.
Not the musical.
Just the felines.
Love them so much that they started a rescue effort called Cats of Hagerstown to help the local Humane Society better care for these too-often cast-off creatures.
And, you know what? I’m totally okay with that.
Because meeting these two kids with big plans to change the world one tenacious tabby at a time was an inspirational experience.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that today’s teens are spoiled or that they don’t care about their communities or about the world in which they live.
Because it couldn’t be further from the truth.
